Safex Cash Emission Milestone: Block Reward Drops 20% from 400 to 320 SFX
The Safex Cash blockchain is approaching an important scheduled milestone in its emission curve.
The current Safex Cash block reward is 400 SFX per block. As the blockchain reaches approximately 612,224,200 SFX issued, the protocol will automatically enter its next emission window and the block reward will decrease to:
320 SFX per block
This is a 20% reduction in the amount of new Safex Cash created with each block.
Nothing needs to be activated, voted on, or manually changed for this event. The reward schedule is part of the Safex blockchainβs monetary rules and the transition occurs automatically as the issued supply crosses the next emission threshold.
The numbers
| Current window | Next window | |
|---|---|---|
| Block reward | 400 SFX | 320 SFX |
| Change | -20% | |
| Safex target block time | 120 seconds | 120 seconds |
| Target blocks per day | ~720 | ~720 |
| Nominal new SFX/day | 288,000 | 230,400 |
| Reduction in daily issuance | 57,600 SFX/day |
Safex Cash has a base monetary supply target of 1 billion SFX.
The current 400 SFX reward period began after approximately 507,032,200 SFX had been issued. Over this reward window, another 105,192,000 SFX is scheduled for emission.
At 612,224,200 SFX, the next stage begins.
The 320 SFX reward window then allows approximately another 84,153,600 SFX to enter the network before the following scheduled reduction to 260 SFX per block, around 696,377,800 SFX issued.
Why does the reward change?
Safex Cash was not designed with a permanently fixed mining reward.
Its emission curve moves through a series of predetermined reward windows:
60 β 130 β 200 β 270 β 340 β 410 β 480 β 400 β 320 β 260 β 200 β 160 β 120 β 100 β 80 β 64 β 52 β 44 β 40β¦
The early stages increased the mining reward as the network developed. Safex has now moved well into the declining side of that emission curve.
The upcoming move from 400 to 320 SFX is therefore another planned step toward progressively lower issuance as more of the Safex Cash supply enters circulation.
What changes for miners?
A successfully mined block that currently carries a base reward of 400 SFX will carry 320 SFX after the transition.
What is certain is the protocol-level change:
400 SFX β 320 SFX per block.
What changes for everyone else?
Existing SFX balances do not change.
The functionality of Safex Cash does not change.
The maximum supply does not suddenly change.
What changes is simply the rate at which additional SFX enters the economy through proof-of-work mining.
At the 120-second target block interval, the theoretical issuance rate falls from approximately:
288,000 SFX/day
to:
230,400 SFX/day
or approximately 57,600 fewer new SFX each day.
Thatβs a meaningful reduction in new issuance.
A note about the original Safex Blue Paper
Long-time community members may remember the original emission table showing approximately 611.125 million SFX at block 2,100,000 around this stage of the curve.
The live Safex implementation calculates its reward windows from the actual protocol constants: a 120-second target and 262,980 target blocks per emission year. Using those rules, the precise transition into the 320-SFX reward window occurs at approximately 612,224,200 SFX issued.
The blockchain implementation itself is the authoritative source for the live emission rules.
An important point in Safex history
More than 61% of the one-billion-SFX base supply will have been issued when this transition occurs.
Safex Cash is moving from the era of 400 SFX blocks into the 320 SFX block era.
For miners, node operators, marketplace users and anyone following the development of the Safex economy, it is worth recognizing this for what it is:
another predetermined monetary milestone being executed by the blockchain exactly according to its rules.
No ceremony required.
The chain just keeps going.
~ 2 Days remaining in the 400 SFX bracket.
400 SFX β 320 SFX
